Decades ago, I enjoyed a relationship with a lovely soul who taught English to functionally illiterate adolescents in one of the most impoverished public schools in the slums of Philadelphia.
And what I remember best of my teacher friend's children how so few grasped the meaning time.
Or the notion of past, present and future.
Or how and why "later" can be the same as "never."
Because in their world, reality was now-driven by a need survive.
